Porsche and Michelin
A successful partnership for optimum performance
Porsche and Michelin have enjoyed close links since 1969. This partnership has been significantly stepped up in the last decades with a 20-year cooperation contract between the two partners and extended far beyond tyres to the benefit of every Porsche enthusiast. The continuous quest for ultimate quality and perfection unites the two partners.
As part of this collaboration, Porsche trusts in Michelin’s expertise to develop tailor made tyres for every car model range. This ensures that the interaction between the chassis and tyres can be continuously optimised with precise fine-tuning. Only these high-performance tyres receive the highly coveted N-marking.
MICHELIN is Porsche's strategic tyre cooperation partner since 2002

Build together the future of mobility with tyres for Porsche electric cars
Porsche was the very first vehicle manufacturer to introduce a specific quality seal for tyres: the N-marking. N-marked tyres are designed for maximum level of performance and safety with optimum control and cornering stability even at high speed on Porsche vehicles.
Bespoke tyres with special rubber compounds are developed for each Porsche model line. Thanks to a custom-fit tyre geometry, each set of N-marked Porsche tyres are designed for:

The high-performance Porsche-approved tyres are easy to identify from their new model specific N-markings on the sidewall of the tyre. This prevents any mix-up between approved tyres and conventional standard tyres or old N-marked tyres. Be sure you always fit the correct Porsche-approved tyre on your Porsche car:
Taking the latest Porsche 911 generation (992) as an example:

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022, Porsche demonstrated the potential of its new 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance 100 % electric car. It was equipped with MICHELIN tyres made from 53% sustainable materials. Indeed, we have reached a new milestone by increasing the proportion of bio-based and recycled materials in the tyres we supply to Porsche. This is a significant advance, which goes hand in hand with the performance and safety of Michelin's competition tyres.
Together, we generate innovative solutions and concepts and, in this way, shapes the mobility of the future, initiated in 2019 as part of our collaboration in FIA Formula E World Championship (inspired by our involvement in FIA Formula E from 2014 to 2022) and extended with the launch of electric vehicles such as the Porsche Taycan.
By 2050 Michelin will manufacture all its tyres exclusively from sustainable materials. Porsche's future electric racing programme will also enable Michelin to test sustainable solutions in real race conditions. The French manufacturer's ambition is to accelerate the development and transfer of technological innovations to future tyres for electric vehicles. This allows Michelin to express its expertise and innovation potential.
Provide an impeccable service to its demanding clientele of premium cars is a key mission for Porsche and Michelin. There is a common will to shaping future-oriented mobility in a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and efficient manner. Porsche’s motto: "driving technologies” gives a nod to its development of mobility solutions on one hand while also highlighting its drive to advance technologies on the other.
Beyond this strong partnership around tyres, Michelin and Porsche expand the collaboration to the area of sustainability. Through an investment in the promotion of responsible rubber extraction, it is one of the first support projects in the world to start at the lowest level of the natural rubber supply chain.
The collaboration started in the field of motorsport where Porsche has achieved great successes rewarded by numerous victories and demonstrated how perfectly orchestrated MICHELIN tyres and vehicle performance can push a vehicle to its limits. The passionate working relationship on the racetrack ensures that the technology is transferred to the road, forming the basis for the joint development of high performing serial tyres.
This winning partnership has been illustrated many times in motorsport by important victories in FIA WEC (FIA World Endurance Championship) with 17 overall wins with the Porsche 919 Hybrid between 2012 and 2017 including 3 consecutive overall wins during the famous Le Mans 24 Hours race. More recently, in February 2022, Porsche celebrated its first victory in the FIA Formula E World Championship in Mexico City with MICHELIN PILOT SPORT EV tyres (inspired by our involvement in FIA Formula E between 2013 and 2022).

E-sports racing is the virtual equivalent to real motorsport and is becoming increasingly important for Porsche and Michelin.
This is reflected in the sports car manufacturer’s professional racing series, such as the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup world championship where the Michelin logo has been visible on all Porsche cars.
We work closely together on making motorsport simulations more realistic by bringing the role of tyre physics even more into the focus of drivers and simulation developers in racing simulations.
